City of Baldwin City receives CDBG-CVR Covid Resiliency grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce.

Attention Baldwin City Business Owners!!

The City of Baldwin City was recently awarded a CDBG-CVR Covid Resiliency grant from the Kansas Department of Commerce. The funds can be used by local businesses to make business improvements that directly impact the resiliency of the business to a pandemic-like event or public emergency.

Examples of eligible uses include:

  1. Upgrades allowing businesses to remain open to prevent future closures due to community illnesses and health emergencies.*

  2. Technology, hardware, and software upgrades including infrastructure, devices, and applications.

  3. Ecommerce updates including online inventory management and website enhancements.

  4. Professional development and training for business enhancements

*Due to complications with engineering, architecture, and environmental review requirements, construction projects are not permissable.

To be eligible for the grant, the business must:

  1. Be a for profit business only.

  2. Have been in operation prior to March 1, 2020

  3. Be located within Baldwin City limits.

  4. Employ at least 51.5% low-to-moderate income employees as defined in the grant paperwork.

Each business owner must complete the application in full and provide LMI forms for each employee. The grant administrator will review each application for eligibility and a committee will determine grant award amounts.

Program rules limit grants to the following maximums, although due to grant funds actually available and number of businesses applying, the grants will likely be considerably less:

  1. Businesses with five or fewer employees (including the owner) are eligible to receive up to $30,000 of CDBG-CVR funding.

  2. Businesses with between six and fifty employees (including the owner) are eligible to receive up to $50,000 of CDBG-CVR funding.

  3. Maximum grant of $50,000 per company.
