Presentation: "Prairie City Catholic Mission Archeology Project"

He will give us information about the archeological dig he led for Baker University students at the 1859 Catholic Mission in Prairie City southwest of Baldwin City.  This church, Annunciation Catholic Church, began on the Butell property in 1857 and continues today in its newest building on 6th Street just north of US 56. Dr. Pumphrey and his students were able to recreate parts of the old mission through the artifacts found in their dig.  Their research contributes valuable information to the history of this location. We will see rare views of the site.

Info about the BU archeological dig is at this link
