By Dana Mullis, Organization Director for the Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce and Main Street Program Director
I'm excited to share some fantastic news that could significantly benefit our community: a new grant opportunity specifically tailored for Main Street communities like ours. This grant, offered by the Kansas Department of Commerce, is designed to enhance our downtown area's vibrancy, support economic growth, and foster community development.
SIGNS Grant: Enhancing Downtown Visual Appeal
Introducing the Supporting Innovative Growth through New Signage (SIGNS) grant program, the Kansas Department of Commerce allocates $250,000 to enhance the visual appeal of downtown retail and commercial business storefronts across rural Kansas. Eligible applicants can receive grant awards ranging from $1,000 to $50,000 per project, with a required cash match and opportunities for in-kind contributions. Applications opened on April 1, 2025, and will be accepted on a rolling basis until all funds are allocated. This initiative supports the installation of creative signage that maintains the historical character of our commercial district. https://www.kansascommerce.gov/community-development/signs/
