What is your motivation for running for the office?

  • I want Baldwin City to be a place that a diverse demographic wants to and can afford to live; from singles to families to empty nesters and retirees/senior citizens.  A positive working relationship with the business community, school district, and Baker University is essential.

What is one major issue Baldwin City is facing currently and how would you address it?

  • Developing a vision for the community supported by a plan to achieve it.  It sounds simple but it’s hard to do well for any organization and especially difficult for a public entity like a city council that changes every 2 years.  A plan guides the council’s decision making on issues and opportunities as they emerge.  Community input and council transparency are critical to the process.

What is your vision for Baldwin City 5-10 years in the future:

  • That we’ve found a balance between needs, wants, utility rates, and taxes that attract residents and businesses. Managing costs and expanding the tax base through controlled growth is essential for the city to be a desirable and affordable place to live.

What personal characteristics and/or abilities do you have that qualify you for election to city council?

  • Having grown up in Baldwin City my family has been a part of this community for over 50 years and we currently have 3 generations living here. I’ve also lived in other cities before returning to Baldwin and gained perspective on how they dealt with the issues of growth, quality of life, and affordability.  I have 8 years of public service experience and my professional experience is in leading organizations and managing multi-million dollar annual budgets.  I’d like to bring my experience to the council with the sole objective of ensuring Baldwin City is a great place to live and work.
