The Baldwin City Chamber of Commerce is pleased to turn the spotlight on one of our members! The following blog post is a little bit about The Light Center, in their own words.

Spreading light and healing

For over 23 years, The Light Center has been operating as a small retreat and learning center on 35 beautiful wooded acres just to the west of Baldwin City.

As a not-for-profit organization, it has 501c3 privileges under the umbrella of the Unity Worldwide Ministries. The mission is to hold sacred space for renewal globally and locally, for individuals and families seeking wholeness in partnership with nature. We honor all religious traditions and walks of life, welcoming all who desire spiritual growth and holistic healing.

Growth and expansion

On March 30, 2018, we added an additional 60 acres of land which we will steward and gradually expand our capacity to grow much of our own food.

We dream of one day having small cabins in the woods to add to our very limited accommodations in a re-habbed old horse barn, which serves as our meeting center. We are learning all we can about alternative construction, soil management and permaculture growing. It is a steep learning curve but one that attracts the excitement of the younger generations.

We are grateful to receive support from the Douglas County Community Foundation which will support the expansion of our work with people who are living with the impact of suicide. We have also recently been awarded funding to support our projects with youth in Riviersonderend, South Africa, which is Baldwin City’s Sister City.

Stay or play

We offer some very sweet lodging for individuals or small groups in the horse barn you see pictured here and host a wide range of retreats, workshops and events. A few of our upcoming events this spring are our annual Faerie Fair, a Fiber Fest featuring fiber animals and crafts, a Day Camp with Family Camp weekend, and a Grief Ritual.
