Holistic, empowering, and educational. These are the words Amy DeWitt uses to talk about Angels Care Home Health, a Medicare certified home health care agency. DeWitt, Angels Care Administrator, says, “We want to teach patients how to stay well, how to live every day with their health issues and stay out of the hospital or ER.”
Angels Care started with a single office in Texas in 2000, but has grown to one of the largest home health companies in the nation since then. This month, they celebrate the one year anniversary of their opening in Ottawa, Kansas. “We feel incredibly welcomed into this community,” says DeWitt, noting that they have cared for well over 250 people in the area since their opening.
Community engagement is a priority at Angels Care. “We not only care for the patients, but we also care for the communities we’re a part of,” says DeWitt. We provide free community education, including a Community Caregiver Series that covers caring for the person who’s ill as well as caring for the self as caregiver. Angels Care staff have also taken an active role in the Baldwin City Senior Engagement Coordinating Committee (SECC). The SECC brings seniors and community agencies together to build projects and partnerships aimed at improving quality of life for seniors.
What’s next for Us? “We’re growing, we’re expanding,” says DeWitt. We provide services in Douglas, Franklin, Johnson, Miami, Linn and Anderson counties out of the Ottawa office.
